The class was divided up into our design groups and we were tasked to come up with need statements for various products. Our team chose an electric toothbrush and came up with the need statements in Figure A.
Rule #5: There’s never time to do it right, but there’s always time to do it over.
Stage Gate: a new product development process
each stage: activities, analysis,
each gate: deliverables, criteria, outputs (decisions, plans to proceed)
Benefits of stage-gate:
- accelerates speed to market
- increases likelihood of product success
- introduces discipline into an ordinarily chaotic process
- reduces rework and other forms of waste
